Ruby wedding anniversary cake - Autumnal

            And now for something completely different!

I've been doing a lot of novelty work recently, so it was nice to get back to sugar flowers to execute an idea that I'd been wanting to try for months.  I'd seen a wedding cake incorporating a candle into the flowers in a magazine a few months back, so wanted to adapt it for a cake I was planning for the ruby wedding anniversary (40th) of my mother-and father-in-law last month.

I wanted something autumnal-looking as well as ruby-coloured, so it was also a good excuse to try out some new flowers and foliage for the first time (cala lilies, winterberries and cotinus leaves) as well as making ivy and gerbera which I always love to do (roses I love a little less...).

I'd originally planned to dust the ivy emerald green, however the week before I finished the cake the ivy on my parents' garage turned a glorious shade of red and I just knew that it would set off the planned arrangement perfectly.  

The berries took flippin' ages to make and even longer to wire/tape up, but I love them and will be doing them again.
