Back story:
Some time ago I got an idea to make a night photo of car light trails on a curved road with mountains or hills in the background and a starry sky above.
The problem was to find a right place. It is very difficult to find a road without bushes and trees along in Germany.
So, I used Google Maps to search for a proper road, then I checked with Google Earth application if the section of the road is free from plants and if there is a hill around the place where I can position my camera. Finally I found a place which could match my wishes- it was about 100 km far away from my home :( Of course I didn't want do drive this distance just because of one picture, so I decided to wait.

But this weekend- what a luck- me and my family were in a city not far away from "my road".
When I arrived, I did some test shots and could see some difficulties. The worst was that the road was not used often- about one car every 20 min. Further, it was dark, too dark. I could not find anything to focus on, and also could not get any structures of the foreground to the picture, independent of the camera settings. After some thoughts, I decided to do following:
- Of course, I put the camera on a tripod and connected the remote controller
- Then I used a passing car to set the focus
- Now it will be interesting... I fired the camera using endless exposure mode, run to my car, drove the road down and up, run back to my camera...
- Now I used my flash in manual mode and light the area in front of the camera multiple times.

Whole act took about 3,5 min... 3,5 minutes of fun :)
