Eglise Saint-Louis des Invalides - a photo on Flickriver

            L'Eglise des Soldats, dite aussi "chœur des pensionnaires", destinée au culte et aux offices quotidiens de ces derniers, est achevée en 1679. L'Eglise Saint-Louis des Invalides, dont la voûte est ornée des trophées militaires de la France, abrite le caveau des gouverneurs où reposent de nombreux gouverneurs des Invalides, des maréchaux de France et des grands chefs militaires.
Dédiée à saint Louis et consacrée à la Sainte Trinité, l'église est rattachée au musée de l'Armée dès sa création en 1905. Elle est aujourd'hui le siège du vicariat aux armées françaises et sert chaque année de cadre à des messes commémoratives parmi lesquelles la messe anniversaire de la mort de Napoléon Ier, le 5 mai, et en septembre la messe anniversaire de la fondation de l'hôtel.
Les grandes orgues ont été construites entre 1679 et 1687 et restaurées de 1955 à 1957. Leur buffet a été réalisé par le "menuisier ordinaire du Roy" Germain Pilon, selon un dessin d'Hardouin-Mansart. 

English notice
Louis XIV designed the Invalides project as a home and hospital for aged and unwell soldiers: the name is a shortened form of hôpital des invalides, the hospital for invalids. The architect of Les Invalides was Libéral Bruant.
Then it was felt that the veterans required a chapel. Jules Hardouin Mansart assisted the aged Bruant, and the chapel was finished in 1679 to Bruant's designs after the elder architect's death. The chapel is known as Eglise Saint-Louis des Invalides.
