Scrippshenge - a photo on Flickriver

            Back home to San Diego pictures!! Scripps Pier in La Jolla, California is a nearly quarter-mile pier that is quite high (I'm not sure how high, but it towers over you when you walk underneath it... 40 feet? 50?  Twice a year, the sunset lines up perfectly with the tunnel created underneath the pier, and it's called Scrippshenge.  I made sure to see it on May 3rd this year, and it was a very cool phenomenon.  One of the most interesting things was how impressive it looked: I admit that on the surface it doesn't seem too big of a deal that the sun sets in this specific part of the sky, but when you're standing there waiting for it to happen, you realize how incredibly ENORMOUS the sky is and how special it is for a 1000 foot tube to line up with this tiny dot in a huge sky.  it's tough to get a cool picture (ideally I'd have one zoomed out to show more sky) but there are dozens and dozens of cameras set up so I had to zoom in quite considerably to get a picture that didn't include a bunch of other cameras/photographers. In fact, even in this image, I had to edit out the top of one other guy's heads.
