Beach Start, Sandy Bay - a photo on Flickriver

            Me beach starting at Sandy Bay, Tasmania on my first Formula Board (Starboard Formula 175 and KA 8.5m2 rig).  Formula boards have a 70cm fin, so you need to be reasonably deep compared to normal windsurfing boards.  I also remember thinking how large the 8.5m sail was, but this was dwarfed by my 12.0m Gaastra rig the following year (as well as a few 11m rigs).

This would be late 2001 when my sail number was T77 (T for Tasmania) before I changed to AUS477 in the national register.

The photo was taken with a waterproof disposable camera (film) that a few of us took out on this day to capture the action in the water.
