the design for the Boston City Hall was the result of an international competition in 1962;  the architectural firm of Kallman McKinnell & Knowles designed the winner which was completed in 1968;  the major materials are precast concrete, poured-in-place concrete and red brick;  the structure remains a controversial building over 40 years later
