What I didn't do on 10.10.10 - a photo on Flickriver

            The Portland Marathon.

In case, the race number in my hand didn't clue you in.

Here's the thing. I'm older now and my body does not heal the way it did when I was 25, or even 35.  When I went from running pretty much strictly trails for 5 years to strictly road running for 5 weeks (I know...my bad), my Achilles got all pissed off about all the concrete and asphalt and started to hurt. A lot. 

So I stopped running to heal, bought new shoes and tried again. Achilles hurt. I stopped. Repeat. Until finally I decided that I preferred running on dirt and so do my feet. 

But as I paid a ton for the chance to run the Portland Marathon, I went downtown to the Hilton and picked up my race number, free running shirt and a coin that announced my completion of the marathon. Yay me! 

Then on Sunday, I waited for the bridges and roads to open up again after the race, drove to Forest Park and went for a four mile run under the shade of Douglas firs and in the mist and mud. With my race number pinned to my shirt.

Nah. Just kidding about that last part. That would be a bit sad, now wouldn't it.
