Reggia di Caserta - Italy - a photo on Flickriver

Fontana di Diana e Atteone 2

Nel giardino della Reggia di Caserta, a ridosso della "Grande Cascata", la "Fontana di Diana e Atteone", composta da due gruppi marmorei, racconta l’episodio mitologico tra Diana e Atteone, infatti, nel gruppo scultorio sono presenti sugli scogli che affiorano dall’acqua della vasca, sulla destra, la dea Diana tra le ninfe e sulla sinistra Attenone tra i cani. Il mito racconta che il cacciatore Atteone dopo aver visto la dea Diana, dea della caccia, immergersi nuda al bagno nel bosco di Megara, venne trasformato in cervo dalla stessa dea che gli aizzò anche i cani contro che lo sbranarono.
