Nocturnal Haybales #13: The Sailing Bales of Buchan [Explored 15.1.18! Thank You So Much!]

I couldn't believe how many haybales were still lying about in the fields of Buchan over New Year. I always thought they got gathered in at the end of the harvest but in recent years it's not been unusual to see them here and there still out in the fields into November. One year I got a photo of some with snow on them which made me smile.

But in Buchan they were everywhere. I asked a local farmer up there and he said they'd had so much rain that the ground was too soft to go and retrieve them.
Here's one of my nocturnal haybale shots. I like to think of these round structures blowing round the fields at night and leaving trails behind them like the mysterious, sailing stones of Death Valley...
