Mejor verla en grande

La playa de la concha tiene una longitud de unos 1.400 m y anchura variable en función de las mareas. En condicionales normales el baño en ella es seguro, por estar protegida del mar abierto por los montes Igueldo (a la izquierda de la imagen), Urgull (a la derecha) y la isla de Santa Clara (entre ambos montes).

Es una playa muy frecuentada por bañistas y saturada durante las pleamares. La imbricación de la playa con la ciudad, tal y como hoy en día puede contemplarse, fue proyectado en 1908 por el arquitecto Juan Rafael Alday, que lo estructuró en torno a un voladizo en el que se abrían las cabinas que sustituyeron a los antiguos carromatos que poblaban la playa. El citado voladizo está sostenido por 96 columnas y limitado por una barandilla sostenida por pedestales de piedra. El paseo así constituido aparece compartimentado por diversas rampas, escaleras y farolas monumentales.
