            After a nice rainy spell we had a sunny day and we decided to return to the Wood Ducks in Elk Grove.  It’s so nice to see the colorful and beautifully arrayed Wood Ducks swimming in the ponds.  This is the most numerous flush of Wood Ducks we have ever seen grouped together.  Wood Ducks are skittish of humans so they are challenging to get a photo of.  They are described as having a brown back, white throat, purple-brown breast with white flecks grading to white belly; buff-yellow flanks. Crested head is green and purple with white stripes; white throat has two bars, one extends as a partial collar, the other extends behind and below eyes.
