Crathes Castle (XVIe siècle), Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Ecosse, Grande-Bretagne, Royaume-Uni.

            Le château de Crathes a été construit au XVIe siècle pour la famille Burnett of Leys et il est resté sa propriété jusqu'à ce que ses derniers occupants Sir James et Lady Sybil ne le cède en 1951 au National Trust of Scotland. C'est un château typique des châteaux-tours de la noblesse écossaise. Il a été agrandi au XVIIe siècle par l'adjonction de l'aile Anne.
Ses jardins ont été recréés dans les années 1920 (mais ses nombreuses haies d'if datent de 1702) par Lady Sybil qui a suivi pour cela les préceptes de Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) paysagiste anglaise influencée par le mouvement "Art and Crafts" qui créa des centaines de jardins au Royaume-Uni et sur le continent. Ses recherches ont porté sur l'équilibre des formes et des couleurs.
