Fiat were keen to resume sporting activity following WW2, one of their first efforts being a racing variant of the 1100 known simply as the 1100S featuring a tuned engine and dramatic streamlined body loosely based off the pre-war 508 CMM which helped the car achieve a speed near to 100mph
The two-seat body was produced by Carrozzerie Speciali at Fiat’s own Officine Lingotto under the direction of Giuseppe Cogno. Several of the early cars don a badge with this script.

The structure itself was an aluminum body built over the Fiat 1100B chassis. The 1100 cc engine offered significantly more power than its predecessor and produced around 51 bhp. The S-spec engine water pump, redesigned radiator and different camshafts.
Fiat quote a build of 401 1100Ss but this would appear to be over ambitious, and may include other body styles.
The first Post War running of the Mille Miglia in 1948 saw Fiat 1100Ss finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th, all the more impressive as the winner was Tazio Nuvolari in a Ferrari 166S .
