The Sri Lanka leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), also known as the Ceylonese leopard or Kotiya, is a subspecies of leopard native to Sri Lanka. 
The Sri Lanka leopard is one of the ten known subspecies of leopard. Its coat is tawny or rusty yellow, stamped with dark spots and rosettes. Its known as probably the largest of all subspecies of leopards. Female weight: 29 kg; males averaged 56 kg.
Like most cats, the Sri Lanka leopard is pragmatic in its choice of diet which can include small mammals, birds, reptiles as well as larger animals. Axis or spotted deer make up the majority of its diet in the dry zone. The animal also preys on sambar, barking deer, wild boar and monkeys. The cat has been known to tackle almost fully grown buffalos. 
The leopard hunts like other leopards, silently stalking its prey until it is within striking distance where it unleashes a burst of speed to quickly pursue and pounce on its victim. The prey is usually dispatched with a single bite to the throat.

De Sri Lankaanse panter of Ceylonpanter (Panthera pardus kotiya) is een pantersoort die alleen voorkomt in Sri Lanka. Daar leven de panters in verschillende omgevingen. Zo zijn ze te vinden in groenblijvende droge bossen, dicht begroeide jungles en hooggelegen bossen. De Sri Lankaanse panter is één van de tien ondersoorten van de panter. 
De vacht heeft een roestgele kleur met grote zwarte stippen over het lichaam. Op de buik zitten echter geen stippen. Een vrouwtje weegt gemiddeld 29 kg en een mannetje 56 kg.
De Sri Lankaanse panter jaagt vooral op inheemse hertensoorten zoals de muntjak en het axishert. Ook jaagt hij op wilde zwijnen en apen. Soms valt hij ook gedomesticeerde koeien aan.
In het wild leven volgens de telling in 2007 nog slechts ongeveer 835 dieren.
In dierentuinen ongeveer 60, hiervan circa 30 in Burgers Zoo in Arnhem geboren. 
Burgers Zoo speelt hier dus een vooraanstaande rol.
