The Binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as the Asian or Palawan Bearcat, or simply the Bearcat, is a species of the family Viverridae, which includes the civets and genets. 
It is neither a bear nor a cat, and the real meaning of the original name (Binturong) is lost, as the local language that gave it is extinct. 

The Binturong has long, shaggy hair, tufted ears, and a long, bushy, prehensile tail. 
The colour generally is black/grayish with a sprinkling of whitish hairs. 
The head and body measure about 60–95 centimetres (24–38 in.) and the tail an additional 55–90 cm (22–35 in.); weight ranges from about 9 to 14 kg (20 to 31 pounds). The binturong is principally nocturnal and arboreal in habit, using its prehensile tail as an aid in climbing.

Its natural habitat is in trees of forest canopy in rainforest of southeast Asia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In some areas it is tamed and is reported to make an affectionate pet.
It apparently feeds mainly on fruit but also takes eggs and small animals.
