Sanctuary of Loyola - a photo on Flickriver

            Sanctuary of Loyola, Azpeitia, Basque Country. Azpeitia is mostly known as the birthplace of Ignatius of Loyola (1491). It was here where Ignatius (or Íñigo by his baptismal name) was born the youngest of thirteen children, raised by the local blacksmith’s wife, brought wounded for recovery from the Battle of Pamplona and had his visions and religious conversion that would eventually lead him to the formation of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) which would, over time, turn into one of the most influential religious orders of the Roman Catholic Church [May 17, 2015].
