Shadows and Light Cast Across Chimney Rock and Nearby Cliff Walls (Black & White, Capitol Reef National Park)

            This was a roadside pulloff not long after coming into Capitol Reef National Park along Utah SR-24. It's a look to the southeast with Chimney Rock and the nearby cliff walls. Even with the noontime sunlight overhead, the views were amazing. I'd read about the monocline and the heights of the Waterpocket Fold running across this national park, but seeing it...amazing! Here I decided to not just include those cliff walls, but also a little bit of the landscape foreground to my front as I felt it best brought out the heights that this towered above. I later decided to try out this "Ansel Adams Look" I'd read about in Jason Odell's book on Capture NX2. The idea is to work with the LCH editor, making some adjustments, and then use a Black point and White point before converting to black & white. I found that brought out a tonal contrast not readily seen with the layers of rocks and light and shadows.
