Moulin Daudet

...Lettres de mon moulin (Briefe aus meiner Mühle) ..
Ein geliebtes und immer wieder aus dem Bücherregal hervorgeholtes Buch, eine Sammlung mit Erzählungen des französischen Schriftstellers Alphonse Daudet(1840-1897).
...Meine Lieblingsgeschichte daraus ist 'La chèvre de Monsieur Seguin' (Die Ziege des Monsieur Seguin), eine Parabel über den Preis der menschlichen Freiheit.

...Auf einer Anhöhe südlich des Ortes Fontvieille - im 'Massif des Alpilles' in der Provence steht die 1814 erbaute Mühle 'Saint-Pierre ou Ribet' (bzw. deren Rekonstruktion durch die Assoziation 'Freunde Alphonse Daudet'), die ihm Anregung und Vorbild war. Er beschrieb sie als „Ruine, [...] ein verfallendes Wrack aus Steinen, Eisen und alten Brettern, das man seit Jahren nicht mehr unter Wind gesetzt hatte.“ Heute trägt sie den Namen des Schriftstellers und beherbergt ein kleines Museum.
Der in seinen "Lettres" geschilderte Kauf und Einzug sind seiner Fantasie entsprungen. Daudet hat nie dort gewohnt oder sie besessen, er weilte während seiner regelmäßigen Aufenthalte in Fontvielle im Schloß Montauban.
Die "Lettres" schrieb er als junger Mann in Clarmart und Paris.

Tatsächlich stehen VIER Mühlen -auf einem schönenWanderweg vom Schloß Montabeau aus zu erklimmen -außerhalb von Fontvielle.
Vielleicht hat man 'Daudet's Mühle' als solche ausgesucht, da sie am schönsten gelegen ist und herrliche Ausblicke in die Landschaft gewährt.

"Symbole de l'écrivain Alphonse Daudet et de son oeuvre, le moulin est ouvert à la visite à Fontvielle. Récemment rénové, il accueille dans son sous-sol un trés joli musée illustrant les oeuvres et les souvenirs d'Alphonse Daudet.
De son vrai nom le Moulin Ribet, il fut également appelé le Moulin Saint-Pierre."

'Letters from my windmill"
Alphonse Daudet's novels established him as the most successful writer in France by the end of the XIX century; but it was the LETTERS, first published in book form in 1869, which remained his favourite creation and has proved his most lasting.

Throughout his working life in Paris Daudet never lost his almost umbilical attachment to Provence. These tales of that region are characterised by a tenderness and delicacy, a wistfulness and wry humour, which give moving substance to his claim that to invent, for him, was to remember.

Symbol of the writer Daudet and his work, the Moulin is open to visitors in Fontvielle. Recently renovated, it has a very nice Museum showing works and memories of Alphonse Daudet in its basement.
Its real name was in fact "Ribet" but it was also baptised "Saint Pierre".
