End of the road

Since the announcement of the changes to Flickr I have been pondering what to do.

Flickr has been a big part of my life for the last few years, it has helped me develop as a photographer more so than I could imagine. The exposure to so many talented and friendly photographers has continued to give me inspiration; it has enabled me to develop friendships that I hope will be lifelong.
I have found the last couple of months very difficult; I have purposely reduced my time spent on Flickr preparing for perhaps a move away completely, but I would say that it has felt like a part of my life was missing.

Those of you that know me will know that it is not the cost of Flickr that has upset me ( I actually think for what you get it is quite good value). It is that the owners of Smugmug, who claim to be photographers, could threaten to delete the work of other photographers unless they pay to keep their work. This I find morally questionable to the point of almost extortion.

My first response to this was to reduce my stream to under the 1000 images, if images were to be deleted, then i wanted to choose which ones went. This was extremely hard, not because the image was being removed from Flickr, as I have other copies of all of them, but it was the loss of the comments that had been kindly left on the images that i found most upsetting.

In order to keep the history attached to my images I have decided that I am going to stop uploading to this stream.
Some time ago I started a second stream as I wanted to explore black and white photography more, it has also become a place that I upload more experimental images that didn’t really fit in with this stream. I will in future be using the other stream as my main stream

I thought I would end with one of my favourite shots from last year, I have uploaded slightly different versions of this and at the time I said it would probably be worked on a few times, this is the final version (i think )
