Great Falls, viewed from Maryland side

Great Falls is one of my favorite places here where I live. Here the Potomac River works its way through significant rapids and multiple sudden drops in elevation. Virginia and Maryland are separated by the great Potomac, and you can view the Falls from both sides. On the Maryland side it is known as the Great Falls and C&O Canal National Park. While the Virginia side has the best view of the Falls themselves, Maryland has better trails and views of the multiple tributary falls which feed into the river here.

Whenever I have visitors, I do my best to get them to Great Falls, as it makes for a terrific nature-break from all of Washington D.C.s monuments and museums. These National Parks are surprisingly close, with both the Maryland and Virginia sides each only about 17 miles from the Washington Monument.
